The two most common ways to round out Original Medicare. Here is the plain-language difference.
What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement? Medicare Advantage (Part C) replaces Original Medicare through a private plan that usually bundles prescription drugs and extra benefits, using a provider network. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works alongside Original Medicare to help pay your out-of-pocket costs and lets you see any doctor who accepts Medicare.
| Feature | Medicare Advantage (Part C) | Medicare Supplement (Medigap) |
|---|---|---|
| Doctor choice | Usually a network (HMO or PPO) | Any doctor who accepts Medicare |
| Referrals | Often required for specialists | No referrals needed |
| Prescription drugs | Usually included | Separate Part D plan needed |
| Extra benefits (dental, vision, hearing) | Often included | Not included |
| Monthly premium | Often low, sometimes $0 | Usually higher |
| Out-of-pocket costs | Copays and coinsurance up to a yearly limit | Predictable, most gaps covered |
A
Inpatient hospital, skilled nursing and some home health care.
B
Doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services and equipment.
C
A private, all-in-one alternative that bundles Parts A, B and usually D.
D
Prescription drug coverage, offered as a standalone or inside Part C.
If any of these sounds like you or a family member, a licensed agent can help you understand your options.
Who is eligible for Medicare? Most people become eligible at age 65. You may also qualify before 65 if you have received Social Security Disability (SSDI) for 24 months, or if you have end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or ALS.
Many Medicare Advantage plans add benefits you may not know you can get.
Do Medicare Advantage plans include extra benefits? Many do. Depending on the plan and your area, benefits can include dental, vision, hearing, fitness memberships, and over-the-counter or flex-card allowances. Availability varies, so a licensed agent can check what is offered where you live.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMER SAY
MEDICARE FAQ
Yes. There is no cost or obligation to speak with a licensed agent. Agents are paid by the insurance carriers, so your premium is the same whether you enroll through us or on your own.
Most individuals become eligible at age 65.
However, you may also qualify earlier due to certain disabilities or conditions. An agent
can help you determine your exact enrollment window.
Original Medicare does not cover routine dental care such as cleanings, fillings or dentures. Many Medicare Advantage plans include a dental benefit, and standalone dental plans are also available. A licensed agent can show you which options in your area include dental.
Medicare is federal health insurance based mainly on age or disability. Medicaid is a joint state and federal program based on income. Some people qualify for both, which is called dual eligible, and may be able to enroll in a special plan that combines the benefits.
IRMAA stands for Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount. It is an extra amount added to your Medicare Part B and Part D premiums if your income is above a set threshold. The thresholds are updated each year, and an agent can help you understand whether it applies to you.
